Diablo 3 - Screenshots version of Blizzard North (2001-2005)
by admin on Apr.09, 2011, under Diablo 3 News , World of Warcraft
The Web site Kotaku.com reported some time ago by some Diablo 3 screenshots of a rejected version.
As this playable Diablo 3 release was, however, is not known. Blizzard had in the past been known to einstampften even nearly finished projects such as the Warcraft adventure "Lord of the Clans" are not satisfied with.
Developer was known as "Blizzard North," had to make do without the former, however, after 2003 the inventor of the Diablo series. Because Blizzard North from the latest release or LoD Patch 1.09 or less were unemployed, should the development have already begun at this time.
Blizzard North was founded in 1993 under the name "Condor" by Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer and David Brevik. 6 months before the release of Diablo 1 was bought by Condor Blizzard Entertainment in "Blizzard North" renamed.
On 30 June 2003 left the key figures in the studio because of various, unspecified named, disagreement with the Vivendi Group. In 2005, the studio was closed definitively.
Interestingly, it is now, why the developers left the studio.
Urged the Blizzard North founders were in an unintentional game concept, or they had feared the rejection of the project in 2005, 2003, as the development of Warcraft Blizzard ever pressed ahead?
More detailed information is not known. Should you find other sources, just post them in the comments area.
Update 1: Here an interview with Bill Roper from 2003 (just after the exit at Blizzard North).

Starcraft 2 Release in 2010?
by admin on Aug.09, 2009, under Diablo 3 News , StarCraft 2
Work on the new Battle.net delay development
On a conference call with investors, the joint venture publisher Activision / Blizzard launch of Starcraft 2 delayed to 2010. Bobby Kotick (Activision / Blizzard CEO) indicated as a reason to delay the new version of Battle.net. The work is expected to be completed until Q1/2010. Blizzard still expects a release in the first half of 2010.
As you probably know, Diablo 3 also uses the new Battle.net, "2.0" and is thus also of these delays betroffen.Vor summer of 2010 so it will probably do with a release of Diablo third
Furthermore, were A / B from a forecast of revenues in 2009, which should be around 4 billion U.S. dollars.
Forum on Battle.net is Blizzard news poster said "Cydra" follows on the subject:
Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and wants to be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.
Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to Ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we'll continue to polish and refine StarCraft II so, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series' legacy in the first half of 2010th
We will share more details about the beta, Battle.net, and StarCraft II's launch in the future. Keep an eye on the official website at http://www.starcraft2.com for updates, and as always, thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for StarCraft II and all of Blizzard Entertainment's games.
Updates from Sons of Storm
by admin on Aug.03, 2009, under Diablo 3 News , Starcraft , Starcraft 2 , Warcraft 3 , World of Warcraft
Sons of the Storm (link) are a small group of designers at Blizzard Entertainment. Including but not Chris Metzen, vice president of creative development at Blizzard and author of Warcraft: Of Blood and Honor
As BlizzCon approaches and new members were recently added, the group has recorded some updates in their Artist Gallery. Furthermore, they are working on a complete redesign of the gallery.
Then, hopefully, will improve the search function on the artwork. If you are looking for there, currently Diablo concepts, we must first fight their way through a plethora of WoW-Pix.
Bags / inventory size in Diablo 3
by admin on Jul.15, 2009, under Diablo 3 News
As in the BlizzCast 8 was announced, there will be inventory extensions in the form of bags, something to remind the World of Warcraft.
These are in the game's inventory to grow slowly, so you can keep more items until the next visit to the city and earn even more gold / commodities.
Where did you get the bag upgrades, is still not entirely clear. As can be monster drops, quest rewards, Craft Recipes, dealer sales and various other ways to do this.
Bashioks final statement on the subject yesterday:
Just a few things off the top of my head regarding upgradable bags.
Upgrading storage size is a great reward, and can be much better than any incremental weapon / armor upgrade. (Kills / min could easily calculate out to be much greater without having to stop to clear inventory as much as Compared with a bag upgrade to a damage increase from a weapon upgrade.)
Building off the last point, it helps add the sense of your character becoming more powerful and gaining more from the time spent playing.
Increasing the storage size over time / play experience is a great way to scale the player's sense of the game's complexity.
Beginning with a small and limited amount of space teaches the player early on that inventory management is an important part of playing the game - and sometimes generating income.
Making and keeping the player aware of their limitations can also help keep a better sense of structure and focus. Being overwhelmed is sometimes as detrimental to a play experience as being bored.
So keep in mind that while we're obviously dropping bag upgrades off of monsters now, we could choose any number of alternative ways to get them to the player. Or maybe a combination of different ways. Whatever, I just would not focus on the 'how' of them being delivered right now.

Mobility in Diablo 3
by admin on Jul.07, 2009, under Diablo 3 News
Again there is some news from the Battle.net Forums:
A user wanted to know how it looks with the mobility of the chars in Diablo third In Diablo 2 you had for the first MF runs on bosses inevitably choose a Sorceress with teleport skill, as another character for the same distance just far too long needed.
Bornakk confirmed that it will continue to exist differences in movement speed. However you look at Blizzard are now optimized a little more effort, the balance in this respect.
The players have the choice, for which charspezifischen benefits they choose. The exact balance is still unknown and probably still in development. We know, at least not before the beta, which char in Diablo 3 as the best damage-dealer.
We definitely want to avoid as best as possible a single class being far and away better than all others at something (search as mobility) and Malthus used Exclusively for specific tasks.
As long as there is choice and variety in the game there's going to be one solution that gains a general consensus as being the best at "X". The hope and the intent is to make the difference between the best and second best, third best, etc., as imperceptible as possible close to Sun that you can use whatever class / character you want, build whatever you want, and not feel that you're far and away below the abilities of something else. That's balance in choice.
We're taking a close look at what those specific mobility issues were in Diablo II and Diablo III could be in, and yes we're certainly trying to be a bit smarter about planning for it. You specifically mention the witch doctor. With the way he plays and feels a big warp or jump around skill just does not really seem right for him, but he may have a trick or two up his sleeve ...

Diablo 3 in the free Battle.net
by admin on Jul.03, 2009, under Diablo 3 News
On several occasions put users in the official Diablo 3 forum, the question of whether there may be fees for the service of Battle.net Diablo third
Community manager Bornakk called for that purpose a paraphrasiertes quote from Mike Morhaime (Blizzard CEO), based on an investor meeting with Activision / Blizzard (Diablo 3 Publisher), mutatis mutandis, said the following about this:
"A player that buys Starcraft 2 at retail will have the ability to play on Battle.net with no additional fee."
A player who buys Starcraft 2 will have the opportunity to play on Battle.net with no additional cost.
After all, what is known so far, this will also apply to Diablo third Blizzard thinks, however, still considering micro-payment solutions for the free service "Battle.net" at least to make some money.
This could be things like paid name change of chars, realm transfers or other features. Far-reaching benefits (as in Hellgate: London), however, should not be present.
hatte bereits im Sommer 2008 betont, dass keine monatlichen Gebühren geplant seien. Frank Pierce (executive vice president) had already pointed out in the summer of 2008 that no charges are planned monthly.
Jay Wilson (Diablo 3 lead designer) said this about last year:
"... But nothing we heard during our chat that the team has suggested anything other than a free-to-play model in mind for Diablo III's online play. "
It is, however, be paid addons that seem likely to year. Whether it is left Blizzard in Diablo I & II with only one addon is not yet known.
